i went to the SMX trade launch last night. I thought it was your regular trade show, turned out to be a taping pala of “party pilipinas”.
to be honest guys the audience was bored out of our wits. Not even the presence of Richard Guttierez and Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera could enliven us. There were some bright spots there, when Eugene Domingo performed, the Halo-Already Gone duet between Regine and Jaya, and the last part where they did the Party Pilipinas song. But for the most part it was really, really boring. And a lot of the numbers looked really tacky.
What’s weird is that, unlike SOP, they were singing a bit more modern songs…so how come it’s still not engaging?
Here’s my take, and I hope the fans can take this constructively, since I used to be a big SOP fan myself:
* Replace half of the hosts: Those 2 unknown DJs can speak good English, but it seems they are only talking to themselves and not let the audience participate. They are no “Mo Twister” (yeah mo was really effective during the first generation of SOP). Tim Yap is super duh. Raymond Guttierez can probably do talk shows, but not variety shows. And that other girl (sorry I don’t know her name)…what on earth gave them an idea that the girl can host?
* There should be a good balance between Popular or relatively popular people and new/unknown people: notice ko lang mas maraming new/unknown people last night. Yung mga veterans kasi, initially ang magdadala sa mga bago, at the initial stages. Pero kung mas marami ang bago kesa sa veterans, walang magdadala. The result is dry hosting and mediocre musical performances. I swear it felt like I was watching a live show of Walang Tulugan.
* Let the singers do the singing: More than half of the numbers were lipsynched talaga. Such a turn-off. Wag nang pakantahin. Bigyan na lang ng soap opera.
* Better choreography/more intimate setup: Yung dancers nila need to look like they are having fun when dancing and not dancing with blank faces. Tapos dapat yung face nila, towards the audience, yung parang inviting. Para ma-enganyo ang audience. Lalo na kapag nasa tv coz mahahalata kapag close-up kung blank ang expression ng mata. Ryza Cenon and LJ Reyes were 2 people who always looked fun when they’re dancing. But unfortunately wala sila kagabi.
* No more canned applause : siguro nga dahil no reaction ang mga tao, they were forced to do canned applause. Pero parang “That’s Entertainment.”
* Shorter, crisper spiels: Ang hahaba talaga ng mga intro nila. At yung mga banter nila Ogie sobrang haba. Eh kayo lang naman ng co-hosts ninyo ang naaliw sa banter ninyo. So please, keep it short and crisp so we can have musical numbers.
These people really “worked it” last night, and given more training and better spiels, can potentially take this show to new levels. If only we see more of them than those lipsynching people or cutie kids who cant dance, Party Pilipinas would be a true party. Mark Bautista, Jay-R, Kyla, Jennylyn Mercado and Mark Herras had 3-4 musical numbers last night and did quite well.
Of course, you can always count on Regine Velasquez to wow you. I think I was late coz I didn’t get to see La Diva, but I bet they would’ve good as well.
Elmo Magalona has potential and so is that girl Julie Ann. That new Japanese-looking young boyband also sounded good…although medyo kulang pa sa exposure and training and stage presence – but with practice and proper marketing, may potential din. Sex Bomb were also there and I feel they can help make the Party a parteeehhh…
Yun lang. My heart was breaking last night kasi sobrang awang awa ako. Sabi ni Mr. Gozon, Party Pilipinas is a hint of all the great things that are coming from GMA. We were thinking, O Lord, if ito na yung great things, ang pathetic naman. Sobrang boring talaga ang I feel for the performers, who looked like they were giving it their best. It’s really up to the writers and the directors, researchers and choreographers, stylists and personality coaches to try and help the real performers and find the right mix to turn it into a real party.
