“Sa Wakas,” incidentally the title of Sugarfree’s first album, is a reflection of life and love through the timeless songs of the well-loved band. Co-written by Andrei Nikolai Pamintuan and MarianeAbuan with the music beautifully arranged by EjayYatco, “Sa Wakas” promises to bring together the world of pop rock and musical theatre in one groundbreaking show.
“Sa Wakas” also defines the end of a relationship to finally understanding life and finding love in return. This musical aims to re-introduce these heart-wrenching songs to a new generation and present it with a fresh and distinct “Broadway-fied” sound.
Love is tough. It’s tough because you cannot be sure of it. You can never tell if you’re going to end up with your special someone now. It is possible that one minute, they are deeply in love with you, and then the next minute, the feelings are gone. Not everyone is as lucky as Cinderella or Snow White who lived happily ever after with their princes charming. Some are like Topper and Lexi, whose relationship aged with time, but ended eventually.
“Sa Wakas” raises the timeless question of why relationships fall apart. Thematically, it also explores the concept of how the choices we make in life define who we are as a person. The musical features the “Broadway-fied” hits such as “Burnout”, “Mariposa”, “Wag Ka Nang Umiyak”, “Hari Ng Sablay”, “Makita Kang Muli”, “Dear Kuya”, and “Telepono” just to name a few.
The title character Topper will be played by Fred Lo (9Works Theatrical’s “Rent”) and Vic Robinson (PETA’s “Si Juan Tamad, And Dyablo, At Ang Limang Milyong Boto”) with female leads Caisa Borromeo (Gawad Buhay awardee, Repertory Philippines’ “Little Women”) and Kyla Rivera (Gawad Buhay nominee, Repertory Philippines’ “I Love You Because”).
“Sa Wakas,” a new Pinoy rock musical, is produced by Culture Shock Productions in cooperation with Fringe MNL. Watch “Sa Wakas” at the PETA-PHINMA theater on April 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28.
