Direk Cathy shared that aside from the fact that “Four Sisters And A Wedding” is the initial offering of Star Cinema for the grand celebration of its 20th anniversary, the film is close to her heart as it is her first family film.
“First time kong lalabas sa genre na romance, there are bits of romantic slants per character pero it’s a multi-plot, multi-character story, that’s why it’s so hard to weave them in together,” said Direk Cathy, who, just like Star Cinema, celebrates her 20th year in ABS-CBN. “This movie is also very special because its story is something that touches my core, on something I never had. Maybe I want this movie because I don’t have this story in my life.”
The well-acclaimed director further narrated that although she’s part of a big family, she grew up alone. “I belong to a family of 9 and yet I grew up alone. I have sisters who are old enough to be my parents and I’m the youngest. So alam ko ‘yung feeling na kapatid mo and yet parang ‘di mo kapatid kasi they grew ahead of you. Hindi ko sila halos nakita dahil ako nasa probinsya habang sila nasa Maynila. It feels awkward everytime we see each other kasi kapatid nga kita pero bakit parang ‘di kita ganun kakilala,” she said.
Like Direk Cathy, CJ, the character of Enchong in the film, is also the youngest among his siblings. CJ shocked his four sisters–Teddie (Toni), Bobbie (Bea), Alex (Angel) and Gabbie (Shaina) that he will get married with Princess, her girlfriend for three months.
“After the announcement na magpapakasal si CJ, the four sisters will come together to stop the wedding. But it is in this coming together that they also face their issues among themselves as siblings and as a family,” said Direk Cathy.
Aside from the beauty of the story, Direk Cathy took pride in the opportunity to work with some of the most talented stars in the country. “It was fun kasi marunong itong mga batang ito. I’ve worked with them on separate projects, I know what they can give, and yet I have my own needs based on the story. I am lucky enough that there are no instances ever that I can recall na may nagpa-star, na may nagreklamo,” she shared. “This is not a romantic movie, hindi lang sila ang bida. So, I made sure that first, I instilled that they are smart enough to know, that this is not their project, it is a collaboration of efforts. Each of them is a pillar to create this entire film.”
Coney Reyes, Angeline Quinto and Sam Milby have a special participation in “Four Sisters and A Wedding.” Also part of the film are Carmi Martin, Buboy Garovillo, Bernard Palanca, and Janus del Prado.
An unforgettable light family drama about family relationships; siblings who have grown together and fell apart; and unconditional love; “Four Sisters and A Wedding” will hit cinemas nationwide on June 26, 2013.
