Broadcast journalist Anthony Taberna finds the answers tomorrow in “Pinoy True Stories: Demandahan” as he reviews a Supreme Court case of “Michelle,” who petitioned to change her name due to her unusual condition of having both male and female organs.
Michelle was born and grew up as a girl. But when her age hits puberty, she wondered why she has not developed breasts or has started a menstruation unlike her female peers. She began to look and sounds like a male after some time instead.
Michelle later discovered that she has a rare disease called Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, an abnormality in adrenal glands that causes having both female and male characteristics.
Furthermore, she soon developed a male sex organ since her body secretes male hormones. She has become more male in appearance. Thus, Michelle petitioned to change her name in her birth certificate and other legal documents. Did the Supreme Court grant the petition? Who are the ones qualified for a change of name?
Find out in “Pinoy True Stories: Demandahan,” this Thursday (July 4) at 4:30pm, after “A Promise of A Thousand Days” on ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Gold.
