National Football League Fil-Am player Doug Baldwin Jr. of Seattle Seahawks explained through his official Twitter account the incident where he carried the Philippine flag upside down before the start of a match with the Minnesota Vikings.
Here’s his official statement from his Twitter account (@DougBaldwinJr):
“If I offended anyone of the Philippines, it was not my intent. I only meant to call attention to the plight of the people devastated by typhoon Haiyan. The aftermath of the typhoon can be compared to conditions after a battle during war. Leyte is battling to overcome the ravages of typhoon Haiyan. My blessings and well wishes are with the families impacted by this disaster.”
Doug Baldwin Jr. has relatives in Leyte and his maternal grandmother is from Tacloban. In the Philippines, inverted flag means war.
