February 1, 2014 (QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES) – ABS-CBN is set to launch the Philippines’ biggest reality show “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles” worldwide, via The Filipino Channel (TFC) on February 3 (February 4 in Australia, Guam, Japan and New Zealand). The reality show’s much-awaited premiere to be hosted by award-winning actress Iza Calzado, will unveil 14 pairs who have weight issues while further episodes will show the difficulties they face, their hard-earned journey, and their eventual transformation to a better health and life.
Denizens consider Calzado a credible host because she successfully overcame her own weight issue in the past. At the show, she will impart her weight-loss success story and experiences. However, despite the vote of confidence, she is pulling out all the stops to prepare for one of her most challenging projects to date. “It is my first time to host a major TV show. I am happy because I learned a lot from it. As much as I can, I will make sure that I will do it right and I will give my very best for this project,” Calzado said.
To prepare, Calzado underwent a workshop to enhance her hosting skills. “Of course, I need to work hard as a host so I can help the whole team showcase the contestants’ struggles, as well as their experiences and weight-loss journey inside the camp,” Calzado added.
In the “Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles,” each pair is expected to do everything it takes to stay in the competition and encourage each other to lose weight, a twist that will either test their relationship as relatives, work colleagues, or friends, or show that in having a partner, the journey to a better life will be lighter.
Like in the previous edition, the contestants will live in a camp where they will undergo rigorous activities conducted by challenge masters Matteo Guidicelli and Robi Domingo.
Domingo, who is one of the most visible hosts on TV after being involved in various ABS-CBN reality shows, will take on a unique and hefty task this time.
“It is a tall order to be part of the show because we have Guidicelli, who has joined a lot of triathlon competitions, Calzado is always into fitness, while coaches Jim and Toni Saret are like a demi-god couple. Knowing my colleagues, my challenge is to step up from my usual training,” Domingo mused. As preparation, Domingo also read a book on the psychology of obesity. “I have to know what runs through the mind of obese people, so I know how to deal with their emotions,” he revealed.
Guidicelli on the other hand said that aside from being a challenge, being part of “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles” is a dream come true. Guidicelli said it fuses two of his passions – hosting and sports. “I am very happy because I have wanted to host ‘Biggest Loser’ since its first season. It is connected to triathlon and sports, my passion and lifestyle,” said Guidicelli.
In addition, Guidicelli said he relates to what the show’s contestants go through, because as a triathlete, he also endures strenuous training sessions with his coach. “My coach always motivates me and pushes me to work harder, which is what I do with the “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles” contestants. I want them to improve and see their transformation from being overweight to being fit and healthy,” Guidicelli ended.
For “Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles,” that coach is returning instructor Jim Saret. “It is always an honor to be part of the show because I get to touch a lot of lives, inspire a lot of people, and ‘The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition’s’ reach is unmatched, worldwide. I am doubly honored because I am teaming up with my wife,” shared coach Saret.
Despite this, he admitted to the pressure to make the contestants lose weight and see only the best results, as his and wife’s names are at stake. “But we are so excited, because Toni and I know each other so well and she knows my standards when it comes to fitness. We will give our 200 percent to contribute to the show’s success,” he said.
Toni Saret who will prescribe exercise programs to the contestants said that many Filipinos will be encouraged by “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles” to get fit. She also described the “Doubles” edition as one-of-a-kind as it will stress the importance of having a partner who has the same weight loss goals.
