Living up to someone’s legacy can be sometimes unattainable as some may think, especially if the footsteps you’re following are from one of the finest basketball players and Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) legend Benjie Paras.
Luckily, this is not the case for Andre Paras. At 18 years old, Andre proved that basketball is indeed in his DNA and that living up to his 6-foot-5 father’s legacy is not something distant and farfetched, but rather, an ongoing basketball game where he is taking the lead.
Prior to joining the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons, Benjie’s alma mater, the younger Paras was a highly sought-after high school prospect from De La Salle Greenhills. After his stint at UP, the maroon cager would enter the San Beda Red Lion’s den where his father serves as an assistant coach of the school’s basketball team.
“It’s kind of cool, actually. Playing with my dad has always been both a privilege and a pleasure. It brings me back to my childhood days when my dad was still teaching me how to dribble and shoot properly,” said Andre.
Known for his high leaps and a knack for powerful slam dunks, the formidable 6-foot-5 cager is expected to launch the San Beda Red Lions even further as the team defends their National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) basketball championship again this year.
“At first, I was really feeling the pressure of being compared to my father because let’s admit it, he’s one of the best basketball players the country has ever produced,” he shared.
“But then he encouraged me to be just me, to be Andre. Because he said that it is only when I believe in myself and truly enjoy the game we both love that I can truly live be great at it.”
With four straight NCAA titles, the San Beda Red Lions is the team supported by electronics giant LG Electronics Philippines, a brand which Andre endorses.
Just like its celebrity endorser, global innovator LG Electronics has time and again shown that it indeed can keep up, or even set the bar higher, and live up to its own award-winning heritage and legacy of mobile excellence.
Coming from a successful run last year with the introduction of the revolutionary LG G2 smartphone which garnered a number of awards from local and international tech pundits, the mobile frontrunner’s latest flagship smartphone, the LG G3, was also delivering impressive results and continuing what it started.
At the 2014 Red Dot Design Awards recently held in Essen, Germany, the LG G3 was given the “Best of the Best” award after winning a total of nine awards in the Communication Design category of the prestigious award-giving body.
Among the smartphone’s features cited in the Awards are its Smart Keyboard, Knock CodeTM, and its redesigned graphic user interface (GUI). LG bested 7,096 entries from 49 countries in the said category of one of the most important competitions in the global design industry.
The 2014-2015 European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) Awards also gave LG G3 top ratings and named it the “European Advanced Smartphone” in its recently held awarding ceremonies in Berlin, Germany.
A unique association of 50 special interest magazines from 20 European countries, EISA said that LG G3 was a clear winner with its 5.5-inch LCD IPS display with sleek design and high resolution that is four times HD.
“From my experience, performing at par with people’s expectations can be difficult at times because all eyes are on you,” said Andre. “But I must say, as a loyal LG user and advocate, the LG G3 really delivers and never fails to amaze me every day. It is a smartphone that has consistently performed beyond the ordinary.”
Contributing as well to overall business boost for LG Electronics globally, the LG G3 was praised for three key factors: its breathtaking Quad HD display coupled with a seamless and minimalist graphic user interface, a 13 megapixel camera with Optical Image Stabilization Plus (OIS+) and a smartphone’s first laser auto focus, and a stunning floating arc design.
Aside from the Metallic Black and Silk White variants, the LG G3 is also available in Shine Gold and Burgundy Red colors. The smartphone powerhouse can be availed under Globe’s mySUPERPLAN 1799 as well.
