Mark Duane Angos, Star Creatives head writer and Suzette Doctolero, GMA Network head writer, got into a heated Twitter argument last November 29, Friday. The argument circulated around the similarities of “Bagani” and “Encantadia.”
In both shows, each of the characters symbolizes basic elements: Earth, Air, Water and Fire. Although, Bagani writers created a character based on another element: Wood.
Recently, GMA Network and Encantadia head writer reacted on the upcoming Kapamilya teleserye. A Twitter user, @sadboydotcom, tagged her on a photo with the caption: “Eto yung ‘classmate pakopya, ng assignment. Sige basta medyo ibahin mo para di halata.”
Then, Suzette replied, “Hahahhaha funny ka. May binago naman sila ah. Yung naka violet. Di sa enca ginaya. Pang circus ang costume. Hahahaha”
On her next tweet, she immediately said it was a joke.
“Joke lang! Hahaha baka maintriga pa ako. Peace po. Ito kasing si sadboy nagpapatawa,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, Star Creatives and Bagani head writer reacted on Suzette’s tweets.
“I think you should get out of this ‘originality discourse’ especially if you’re the one who copied CW’s Arrow. My friendly advice, focus on stories you’re writing. I’m sure there’s a lot of B-actors from Game of Thrones who can cameo on your next show.”
The CW’s Arrow is about Oliver Queen who uses his vigilante secret persona to right societal wrongs and transforms their city to its former glory. His weapon of choice is a bow and an arrow.
Alyas Robin Hood is about Jose Paulo “Pepe” de Jesus who was arrested after he was framed for his father’s murder. He went vigilante as he looks for his father’s murderer and along the way, right the wrongs of his own community.
Suzette countered with a simple, “Ay arrow talaga? Bobo hahahhahaha”
Although Mark didn’t reply, he tweeted:
“She’s a nuisance in our small community of writers, tolerated in the spirit of ‘paggalang sa nakakatanda.’ Friends from GMA also believe in a diverse & dynamic TV landscape- supporting & learning from each other. Network war is an illusion propagated by those stuck in the past.”
Although, Suzette didn’t directly reply to Mark’s tweet, she wrote a separate tweet:
“Tama siya. In our small community of writers, ako nga yung nuisances, yes. im the crazy one, a nutcase. I do not conform. My soaps, at least some of it, can attest to that. Baliw din gaya ko. Ako nga lang nakakaintindi sa iba kong gawa. Hahaha”
Mark, on the other hand, asked netizens to just let Suzette be.
On Twitter, he wrote:
“We’re in the business of entertainment, bringing happiness kahit saglit lang to our audience. If someone is happy believing her work is being copied, ibigay na natin. The world is a better place now w/ one less lonely person, or in this case, one less lonely writer. #JustLove”
