Are Filipino students ready for reformed K-12 basic education curriculum?

The start of the new school year has signaled the rollout of the first phase of the country’s new K-12 education system, which still faces criticism despite the Aquino administration’s drive to promote it.

Tomorrow (June 5) in “Patrol ng Pilipino,” news reporter Jing Castaneda will examine the Department of Education‘s reformed K-12 basic education curriculum based on its claimed pros and cons and how the government has prepared for the education system’s major overhaul.

The K-12 program seeks to equip students with the necessary skills and competencies to be more globally competitive by adding two more years to senior high school, among other changes.

Are Filipino students ready for this change? Have most parents remained pessimistic about the new education curriculum?

Meanwhile, Gretchen Malalad will scour Metro Manila to see how some cities support families who have difficulty providing school supplies to their kids, including providing free education, bags, and school supplies. She will also discuss in her report the same old problems school children in Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela City face every year, such as flooded classrooms.

Know the stories behind the biggest issues in Philippine education tomorrow (June 4) in “Patrol ng Pilipino” after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN or watch it earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable Channel 26), 9:15 p.m.
