“Sino bang naggagaya at sino ba ginagaya?” (Who’s copying and who’s imitating?) This is the question of Vice Ganda when he was asked about his stand on “It’s Showtime’s” alleged copying “Eat Bulaga.”
Vice is a mainstay host of ABS-CBN’s noontime show “It’s Showtime”. He is also known as the trend maker on television.
Since “Eat Bulaga” in GMA Network is the longest running noontime variety show in the Philippine history, whatever show that airs at the same time, could be consider as their rival. For now, it’s rival show is the It’s Showtime’s. Aside from ratings they complete also in segments and segments comparisons cannot be avoided.
When one show has a new segment, definitely the other will come up with a new one too. Sometimes it is not intentional, but how the televiewers see it, that is where the differentiation starts. It will now become a battle of the creative minds. But the big question always is, who got the idea first?
Ever since Aldub came out, which eventually pulled up the ratings of GMA Network (let’s admit that), netizens have been spreading rumors about It’s Showtime to be taken out. One of the hosts of Eat Bulaga even posted cryptic tweets pertaining to their rival show. But were they threatened? Looks like no. Instead, they come up a segment, giving good vibes to the viewers.

But luck is just too good to humble people. A girl with a viral video asked an advice at AdVice Ganda segment of Vice Ganda. The girl was dubbed as Ms. Pastillas and Vice, in an impulse volunteered to help her find Mr. Pastillas, and the rest is a history. Eventually netizens compared Ms. Pastillas to GMA Network Yaya Dub.
With the non-stop issue of ‘copying’, Vice didn’t keep mum about it anymore. He said, “Nagpapasalamat pa rin ako sa mga tao because they keep on talking about Pastillas. Anuman ang sabihin nila, whether good or bad, for as long as everyone is talking about it, it makes it relevant.”
Because for Vice Ganda everything is relevant in showbusiness.
