At times, one can’t help but question the list of MMFF nominees that includes all the names that appear on the movie posters. Apparently, the jurors don’t mind if an actor’s exposure is limited to 30 seconds. That person is nominated as long as his name appears on the poster.
Star Cinema joined the fray of questionable MMFF tactics when it announced in 2006 that box office receipts would be included in the criteria for the Best Picture Award.
However, this backfired and Star Cinema lost to “Enteng Kabisote” owing to the latter’s huge fan base. This prompted Star Cinema representatives who accepted the Second Best Picture Award for “Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo” to say that they believed that their movie deserved to win.
