Vilma Santos says the next “Darna” should be voluptuous and believable

Darna is a fictional character and Filipino comics superheroine created by writer Mars Ravelo and artist Nestor Redondo. Amongst the actresses who played the role of Darna, Vilma Santos portrayal in the late 1970’s are the  most iconic and has broken a lot of records. All the Darna Movies she starred was all a hit. With this being said, Vilma Santos is the perfect person to choose who is the best actress to be the next Darna.

In an article written by Ervin Santiago of bandera.inquirer.net on January 26, 2016, Vilma Santos explains what she thinks on who the next Darna should be. According to the article, Vilma Santos said that if she is given a chance to choose there are certain qualities that the new Darna actress should have.

  1. The next Darna actress should have a strong personality and  guts.
  2. The next Darna should be voluptuous and not thin.

Vilma Santos who is starring in the movie “Everything About Her” also added that the next actress who will portray Darna should be believable especially when Darna throws a punch it should look like it would really make someone fall. She also said that the new Darna should not be all beauty but someone who has the aura of someone that can really protect everybody.

Vilma Santos’ first Darna Movie was “Lipad, Darna, Lipad” in 1973. It broke all box office record at that time and the highest grossing Darna movie in Philippine movie history and a turning point on Vilma’s career. The famous line “Ding, ang bato!” came also from this movie.
