Former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson is willing to help raise another Miss Universe in the Philippines if the government will share in the expenses the second time around.
“Kaya natin, basta tumulong ang gobyerno. Medyo hirap kami kasi first time na walang tulong ang gobyerno,” Singson said.
Singson mentioned that he spend round $15 million to make the event possible in the country after President Duterte refused to spend public funds for the beauty pageant.
“Kung tutulong ang gobyerno, walang problema. Madali lang. Pero kung hindi tutulong ang gobyerno ulit, mag-iisip na ako,” he said.
In his recent interview, Singson said that he hopes that the next Miss Universe (2018) event in the country will draw in more tourists to the Philippines.
Meanwhile, tourism USec. Kat de Castro did not comment about the government’s refusal to spend money for the pageant; however, she said that that President Duterte is willing to host the Miss Universe in the Philippines once more before his term ends.
