- University of Santo Tomas gave Mocha Uson Thomasian Award in Government Service.
- UST-CSC denounces the award saying Mocha Uson is undeserving of the alumni award.
The University of Santo Tomas alumni association has honored Presidential Communications Operations Office Assitant Secretary Ester Margaux “Mocha” Uson for her work in government service.
Given on Sunday, January 21, Uson received the Thomasian Award for Government Service to serve as an inspiration to other government workers, regardless of political affiliation according to UST Alumni Association President Henry Tenedero.
Uson on her part thanked the UST alumni community for recognizing her efforts in government and her fight for the change in this country.
“It is a great honor for me that my Alma Mater recognizes my efforts to fight for change in our country. If my stay in UST has taught me something, it is to fight for what I believe in, regardless of the difficult obstacles ahead,” said Uson
Meanwhile, the University of Santo Tomas Central Student Council criticized the award, saying Mocha doesn’t embody the real ideals of a true Thomasian and the award should be given only to deserving outstanding UST alumni.
“We express our dismay over this event as Mocha Uson does not, in any way, embody the ideals of a real Thomasian. And with all due respect, Ms. Esther Margaux Mocha Justiniano Uson does not deserve an award that was supposed to be meant solely for outstanding Thomasian alumni”, UST-CSC statement reads.
The UST-CSC also called on all Thomasians to fight against the proliferation of false information and continuously seek for fact-based pieces of evidence amidst denial of truth.
Meanwhile, the UST Alumni Association has also issued their statement regarding the award saying the only criteria for Thomasian Alumni in Government Service award is to be a graduate of UST and be in government service.
They also cleared that the award given to Uson is different from The Outstanding Thomasian Alumni Leadership award which is the highest award given by the said university alumni association.
