- San Diego City Beat made a list of Oscars snubbed performances.
- Charo Santos-Concio made the said list as Renata in Ang Babaeng Humayo.
- Many films are also included in the said list.
San Diego City Beat made a list and paid respects to the unsung performances which The Academy Awards didn’t recognize. One of the actresses which the Oscars supposedly snubbed turned out to be ABS-CBN Chief Content Officer Charo Santos-Concio. She starred as Horacia Somorostro or Renata in the Ang Babaeng Humayo which premiered in 2016. The said film was under the direction of Director Lav Diaz.
In the San Diego City Beat article published on January 23, they also praised her performance in the said film:
“Charo Santos-Concio in The Woman Who Left: Rage, empathy, heartache, joy: This performance has it all. Director Lav Diaz convinced one of Filipino cinema’s titanic figures to return to the big screen for this brilliant, nearly four-hour character study about a scorned woman, released from prison after serving 30 years, who traverses the countryside looking for her missing son.”
They sang praises as Charo’s character gave away the raw emotions:
“On the way, she plots revenge against the corrupt politician who framed her. Diaz’s famed long takes help establish deeper emotional stakes, with the camera pinned to Renata’s facial expressions as they change slowly over time.”
Also included in the list: Salma Hayek in Beatriz at Dinner and Nahuel Pérez Biscayart in Beats Per Minute.
Then, Tiffany Haddish in Girls Trip, Kris Avedisian in Donald Cried and Harris Dickinson in Beach Rats.
Also in the list: Ahn Seo-hyun in Okja, Robert Pattinson in Good Time and Millicent Simmonds in Wonderstruck.
