UST Alumni Association recently gave an award given to Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson for her public service in government. The University of Sto. Tomas recently gave an official statement on this issue. They disowned the award given for Mocha and added that the award came from the Alumni Association and not from the University itself.
“The University of Santo Tomas takes pride in its graduates who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields of expertise but the University wishes to clarify that the recognition given to Assistant Secretary Esther Margaux J. Uson came from the UST Alumni Association Inc. and not from the University.”
Many reacted negatively to the said award-giving moment. Most of them turned out to be UST faculty, students and alumni who denounced Mocha’s recognition. Celebrities, comedians, poets, politicians, news anchors also reacted on this said issue.

ABS-CBN TV Patrol and Bandila news anchor, Karen Davila, also shared her thoughts on the said subject. She wrote on a tweet, “If I were Mocha Uson I’d surprise them all by returning the award. “Salamat UST Alumni sa pagkilala, ayoko pong mag-away away kayo, higit pa sa papel na ito ang pagkatao ko”. #justathought”
Mocha had a degree in medical technology from the University. She also attended medical school at the same university for two years. She later dropped out to pursue a career in the music industry. However, Mocha rose to fame as a sexy dancer and the lead of Mocha Girls.
This hasn’t been the first time that Mocha left the people outraged. Ever since her appointment as the Malacañang’s communications assistant secretary, she has been heavily criticized.
