Piolo Pascual recently defended Robin Padilla on investing in a movie about the war in Marawi instead of donating the money. Piolo shared that with investing, more people can be aware of what really happened in Marawi. As a result of the said film, more people can help and donate to the victims of war.
In the recent press conference for ABS-CBN’s Since I Found You, Piolo explained his defense for himself and Robin. The movie would originate the Bayanihan and this could spark compassion and drive from others to help the people in Marawi.
“Yung ibibigay nating kakarampot na pera, not even one family can appreciate that for a long time. Mas marami tayong kailangang tulungan. So, naisip ko lang na kailangan nating gumawa ng pelikula hindi lang para sa kanila. Kundi para mamulat din ‘yung mga mamamayan na hindi porket okay ang buhay mo, okay na ‘yan… Sa’tin naman nag-originate ang Bayanihan eh. ‘Di ba dapat matuto tayong maging compassionate at tumulong sa kapwa?”
Piolo revealed that Joyce Bernal wanted to donate part of her income from Kita Kita to Robin’s foundation dedicated for Marawi’s rehabilitation. However, Piolo suggested that they could help more if they produced a film on building awareness on Marawi citizens’ dilemma.
“Mahirap siya pero kasi kung gumagawa ka ng isang adbokasiya, mas maganda na isipin mo ‘yung nobility ng ginagawa mo kesa ‘yung pressure na maka-come up with something na pelikula lang. Alam natin na maraming experiences na kakapulutan ng aral dito sa nangyari sa Marawi at ‘yon ‘yung gusto namin ipakita sa tao.”
Piolo will also give livelihood to Marawi war survivors. He will employ them to star in the movie and Spring Films will hold auditions in Mindanao State University. Piolo wants to cast real Maranaos as citizens and soldier roles. The main character, an eight-year-old child and will be the hardest one to find. He also shared that it would be difficult casting a female soldier’s role as the very physical one in the film.
