Jet Li remains an icon when it comes to action movies. Most people would remember Li in movies doing his own fight and stunts scenes. However, a photo of him went viral in China.
Li now looks frail and weak due to his hyperthyroidism and spinal problems.
Hyperthyroidism is also a condition in which your thyroid gland produces too much of the hormone thyroxine. This can accelerate your body’s metabolism significantly, causing sudden weight loss, a rapid or irregular heartbeat, sweating, and nervousness or irritability.
Many of his fans expressed their worry and sadness for their idol. They also disclosed that they couldn’t recognize him anymore. Li received a warning from his doctors that he could end up in a wheelchair if he continued making action movies. He admitted that his heart rate can go to 130 beats per minute because of his condition.
Although he doesn’t stay active in movies, Li also starred in League of Gods in 2016 and On That Night… While We Dream in 2017. He will play as The Emperor in the live-action Disney movie Mulan in 2020.
