The Mindanaoan contender Elaine Duran snagged a new record in “It’s Showtime’s Tawag Ng Tanghalan.”
Last September 18, Elaine Duran won again as daily winner, making her the first-ever contender to get 10 straight wins. And for that, she has already won a total of Php 260,000.
Elaine was born and raised in Butuan City. She is a Mass Communication degree holder and loves arts of any form. She is also fond of joining musical theaters at school.
Most of the time Elaine plays the main role in most of the musical plays she joined. She played the main character Annie in the musical “Annie,” Kim in “Miss Saigon,” and the lead character of “Les Miserables.”
Elaine started singing when she was young. Along with her vocal skills, she also learned to play the guitar and the ukulele. Since then, she dreamt of being a popular singer. This led her to join ABS-CBN’s “Little Big Star” and became a monthly finalist.
She shared that the reason why she joined “Tawag Ng Tanghalan” is to prove to herself that she can compete in big competitions such as this. And she will do anything to win.
Being the first record-holder of such a distinction, Elaine was asked to choose one from three treasure boxes as her bonus. The first box contains Php 50,000, the second box contains a recording-artist contract under TNT Records, and the third treasure box contains a golden mic which will give her the edge to win the competition. The golden mic will grant her the power to choose her song and her competitors’ song.
Elaine took her time to choose her bonus prize. After deliberate thinking, she chose cash over the opportunity to record her first single and the power over her competitors.
When asked why she chose the money, she explained, “Gusto ko po kasi na by process po talaga. Na kung mananalo po ako magkakaroon po ng recording at ‘di ko din po pinili yung golden microphone kasi gusto ko po na maging fair yung laban.”
It was the right decision apparently. Best of luck, Elaine Duran!
