- Film enthusiasts take to Twitter to show support for #C1Originals
- Fan Tweets were as diverse as the films in the 14th Cinema One Originals Film Festival
Twitter takes part in the celebration of the 14th year of the Cinema One Originals Film Festival (@c1origs), with #IamOriginal as this year’s tagline. So as not to miss out on #WhatsHappening, using the official hashtag #C1Originals, film enthusiasts and fans are turning to Twitter for their real-time updates.
Film-loving Filipinos already started to express their appreciation and thoughts on the films’ trailers on Twitterverse. In their conversations, Twitter noted the most talked about (so far) among the nine #C1Originals entries.
- #HospicioMovie
On top of the list is the horror-thriller film by Bobby Bonifacio starring Loisa Andalio (@iamAndalioLoisa) entitled Hospicio. Loisa played the role of a girl who was sent to a hospice for drug dependency. Apparently, there are dark secrets happening inside the hospital that put her in great danger.
“Hospicio is like Girl Interrupted meets John Carpenter’s The Ward.. Pero napakagandaaaa!! ❤️😍 #CinemaOneOriginal2018”
“If you want a twisted comedy-horror story, you need to see Hospicio you, guys. Get scared and laugh, and come out of the cinemas singing Dinungisang Bituin 😂😂😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻”
- #MAMUandaMotherToo
In Rod Singh (@iamrodafrog)’s #Mamu, a middle-aged transgender finds herself becoming surrogate mother to her transgender niece. Starring Arron Villaflor, (@arronvillaflor), EJ Jallorina (@ejjallorina) and Markus Paterson (@markusrpaterson). Conversations on Twitter focused on the perception of LGBTQ in the country.
“sobrang nakakaproud na nagcacast talaga sila ng queer people for the roles because its what we LGBTQ+ deserves! ika nga ni @CupcakKe_rapper “we belong on tv” 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈 #BillieandEmma #MAMUAndAMothertoo”
- #DoubleTwistingDoubleBack
The Twitterverse praised the performances of the lead actors, Tony Labrusca (@tonythesharky) and Joem Bascon, in a film that tackled mental illness and sex addiction.
“Double Twisting, Double Back (Joseph Abello, 2018):
We didn’t know anything about the movie before watching it. To say that @IrishDDizon and I were SHOOKETH during and after the film is an understatement. We don’t deserve THE GREAT Joem Bascon. Ang galing, puta.”
“I’m a huge fan of Mr. Robot and Fight Club so I honestly had doubts about how Double Twisting, Double Back will be pulled off. But hats off to Joseph Abello for such masterful directing. Ang galing ng lahat ng elements.”
- #Paglisan2018
Critics and film-lovers were all praises to the only animated musical entry in the #C1Originals lineup. Tweeps expressed how emotional they got as they watched Paglisan, a film by Carl Joseph Papa about a marriage falling apart when Crisanto (voice by Ian Veneracion) was diagnosed of having Alzheimer’s Disease.
“Paglisan (’18 Carl Joseph Papa): The roughness of the animation feels like a limitation at first, but then it becomes an asset. I felt this one hard.”
“PAGLISAN (Carl Joseph Papa)
Rarely do we witness a film which cuts through the soul. And Paglisan is THAT film. Didn’t expect a Pinoy animation feature could be this so emotionally pure. Amazing visuals, impeccable cast and heartbreaking soundtrack. What a film!#C1Originals”
- #Asuang
Set in the province of Albay, the film #Asuang follows a group of filmmakers whose aim is to document the well known Filipino folklore creature “asuang.” Starring Alwyn Uytingco (@alwynzky), Cha Fonacier (@rrrabidcat) and directed by Raynier Brizuela; Twitterverse was left laughing with the film’s version of mockumentary.
“Asuang (’18 Raynier Brizuela): Works out pretty well, in spite of feeling a little haphazard.”
“#Asuang (dir. Rayn Brizuela) has witty humor all throughout and it is a good movie 2 watch when you want an intro 2 Bicolano dieties. It is like a fusion of laing and Shantidope, nanlalapot sa siksik na flavor at unabashed in its portrayal of social media gods’ narcissism. 4.5/5”
