Gardo Versoza returns to ABS-CBN

Gardo “Cupcake” Versoza, a GMA Network actor for years, is said to be returning back to the ABS-CBN network as he will be cast on an upcoming television show. Gardo just concluded his television series ‘Onanay,’ where he played the role of Dante Dimagiba, the brother of superstar Nora Aunor (Nelia). However, Gardo’s appearance on the drama series was cut short when his character was killed by Helena (Cherie Gil), after forcing her to tell the truth about kidnapping Onay’s (Jo Berry) daughter, Maila (Mikee Quintos).

On Lolit Solis’ article on Pilipino Star Ngayon, she said, “Matagal na napanood si Gardo Verzosa sa mga teleserye ng GMA 7 kaya marami ang nagulat nang makita siya na kasali sa cast ng bagong teleserye ng ABS-CBN.”

He was first known as the ‘Machete’ star, that lead to its sequel, ‘Machete II.’ His other appearances where in ‘Sabik Sa Halik,’ ‘Halimuyak Ng Babae’ and ‘Kirot.’ He was also cast in critically acclaimed movies such as the 1998 Marilou Diaz-Abaya version of ‘Rizal sa Dapitan,’ where he played the role of hero Andres Bonifacio, and ‘Sisa,’ where he played the role of Jose Rizal / Pepe. He even tried to portray a comedic role when he starred in ‘Pinoy Blonde.’

In early 2016, he began taking the nickname, “Cupcake,” which was originally given by actress Aiai Delas Alas.

For the past years, Gardo Versoza stayed with the GMA Network but recently was claimed to transfer back to the ABS-CBN network. He first had his television series with the Kapamilya network in ‘Mula Sa Puso,’ a melodrama romance which lasted for 2 years, where he starred with Claudine Barretto, Rico Yan, and Diether Ocampo. Being one of the most acclaimed television series, it had a remake in 2011 starring Lauren Young, JM De Guzman, and Enrique Gil. While his last onscreen appearance with the Kapamilya network was in the romantic drama television series ‘The Story of Us,’ starring Kim Chiu and Xian Lim, where he made a special participation as Ferdie.

Official statements are yet to be released by both the network and Gardo Versoza himself.
