The GMA Telebabad fantasy series “Sahaya” premieres on March 18, and will replace the high-rating TV series “Onanay”.

Under the direction of Zig Dulay, it stars Bianca Umali as Sahaya, who will have two leading men, Miguel Tanfelix (Ahmad, a Badjao guy who’s in love with Sahaya), and Migo Adecer (Jordan, a city guy who will try to win Sahaya’s heart). Together with them are the supporting characters of Mylene Dizon (Manisan), Jean Garcia (Ricca), Ana Roces (Amang), Ashley Ortega (Mira), Zoren Legaspi (Pancho), Pen Medina (Marciano), and Eric Quizon (Harold), with the special participation of Jasmine Curtis Smith (young Manisan), Gil Cuerva (young Harold), Benjamin Alves (young Pancho), and Gabby Garcia (young Ricca).

According to the Sahaya star, she considers her role as her most challenging project. She also shared the preparation she made for her role, “Matagal po ang preparasyon kasi I have to take diving lessons dahil magaling sumisid ang mga Badjao. And I have to learn how to swim underwater without the usual diving gears. Pinag-aralan din po namin ni Miguel ang language ng mga Badjao. I did a lot of research about the indigenous Badjao culture and had an immersion session with actual Badjaos. Pinag-aralan ko rin ang mga sayaw nila kasi may scenes where we perform their dances.”

She’s thankful to her home network for entrusting her the project that brings awareness about the culture of the Badjao people. “I’m thankful to GMA-7 and proud na binigyan nila ako ng chance to be in this show that aims to show the Badjao’s way of life on TV so we can all have a better understanding of their unique culture.”

Is she preparing for more daring and matured roles, now that she’s posting bikini photos on her social media accounts? “Yes, I want to do more mature roles kasi 19 na ako, but I don’t want to be judged based on what I post on my social media account. Iba naman ‘yung pictures lang sa what I do on screen.”
