In 2009, GMA Films produced the remake of the classic komiks novel ‘Ang Panday’ with Imus Productions and starred Ramon “Bong Revilla Jr. in the lead role. It became GMA Films and Imus Production’s official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival that year. It received many major awards, being the top grosser that time, including Best Pictures and Best Actor for Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla Jr.
In 2016, ‘Imagine You and Me,’ the second team up of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza marked the last film project that was released and/or produced by GMA Films; giving way to parent company, GMA Network’s, migration to digital TV.
This year, GMA Films is back with two movie projects, after it transitioned to GMA Pictures.
The film production’s first project for this year is also the launching movie of the stand-up comedian Super Tekla tentatively entitled ‘Kambal Karnabal’ and having the working title ‘Kiko at Lala’ to be directed by Adolf Alix Jr.
The other project will be entitled ‘Family History’ and Dawn Zulueta will play the lead role, under the direction of singer-composer-comedian and celebrity endorser Betthoven Michael Del Valle Bunagan, more known publicly as Michael V.
Mic Test will be with GMA Pictures in producing this movie.
The lead role was last seen in GMA year 2006 the ‘Now and Forever’ and part of ‘Encantadia’ 2005.
In order not to be exclusive and only utilize in-house talents, GMA Pictures should be open and invite artists from the other entertainment/talent management, just like how Star Cinema invites other artists as well.
This will increase the need of production people because workloads will be available for the comeback of GMA Films.
After three years, we will again experience the excellence of the network in how they operate as a film production house.
