- The ‘Idol Philippines’ new reality singing competition panel of judges received numerous criticisms from netizens
- TOne of the show’s judges were handpicked by the global franchise owner – Fremantle
- Netizens claim that some judges are not worthy of their position
ABS-CBN’s upcoming reality singing television competitio ‘Search for the Idol Philippines,’ is where they find new solo singing talents. Finally, the judging panel for the show will be singer-actress Regine Velasquez, comedian and television presenter Vice Ganda, singer-actor James Reid, and singer-songwriter Moira dela Torre.
Only Vice Ganda was handpicked by the global franchise owner (Fremantle). But many netizens, having heard the update, negatively reacted on the judges selection that has been done, pointing out that some of the judges that were picked are not worthy of their positions.
Regine Velasquez being the head judge said in her ‘TV Patrol’ news interview, “More than being a judge, I want to be a mentor. So I want to be honest because I want them to improve. So that’s my motto.”
Vice Ganda having learned of the assignment said, “Natutuwa ako na natatawa kasi lagi akong personal pick ng franchise. Kasi ‘pag nanonood ‘yung franchise kung sino ‘yung mga possible judges, ‘pag nakikita ‘yung ibang shows kung paano ako nag-judge, laging ako ‘yung ginagawa nilang example. Nakakatuwa naman na nagugustuhan nila kung paano ako mag-judge.”
“Sabi ko, ‘Sure kayo diyan?’ Tapos noong sinabi sa’kin ng management, ‘Gusto ka ng franchise,’ sabi ko, ‘Wow! Franchise talaga?’” he narrated.
Moira Dela Torre who is first time to judge in a reality show said with excitement, “As a person coming from a singing contest, I can empathize.”
And lastly, James Reid expressed that he is very honored to be part of the show and is looking forward to signing a potential talent to his recording company.
When the news came up, many netizens disagreed with the decision as they thought that the panel of judges do not compliment each other and some are not even worthy of the slot. ABS-CBN News posted in its Twitter account a short video clip, as a sneak peek in introducing the jurors of the reality competition. The post got praises but it was also bombarded with criticisms.
Here are some of the negative reactions that they shared.

Regine waited for the right time to judge a singing competition, only to sit with James, Vice and Moira. I have nothing against the three but they could have chosen people at Regine’s level (or somewhere close to her level) in terms of singing experience and credibility.

I forgot to include Yeng, Jed, Erik, Kyla (na grabe sa galing magtono) at yung legit talaga?
Parang si Regine lang may karapatang manghusga sa kompetisyong ito.
VG is acceptable since she has a good sense when it comes to music and judging.
But Moira and James? Next.
