- John Estrada and Coco Martin’s teleseryes are competing
- ‘Kara Mia’ marks a good show to viewers
- John and Coco are good friends, they are not affected with network war
‘Victor Magtanggol,’ was John Estrada’s first teleserye in GMA Network, after he left ABS-CBN on May 2018.This fantaserye lasted for 4 months from July to November of last year, with Alden Richards as the main lead.
‘Victor Magtanggol’ is aired the same time as the Kapamilya’s action series ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’ with Coco Martin as the main star. John is now with ‘Kara Mia’ which incidentally airs the same time as ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.’
During the ‘The Last Interview: The Mayor Antonio Halili Story’ movie screening on March 10 at SM City Lipa, Batangas, John’s reaction on their teleserye rival with Coco was intriguingly asked by the press.
“Well, masaya kami, masaya kami dahil kahit papaano ay nakakalaban naman,” he explained. “Marami naman ang nakakagusto sa Kara Mia, na kakaiba daw, ganito-ganito. So happy ako at kahit papaano, e, lumalaban kami. At marami pa po kaming mga sorpresa na ipapalabas na I’m sure hindi bibitawan ng tao.”
Coco and John have worked together for several projects and became friends personally.
As he revealed, Coco and him sometimes talked about their teleseryes. “Minsan nagte-text siya, ‘Kuya John,’ ganun-ganun, ‘good luck sa ano.’ Sabi ko, ‘Thank you!’”
John acknowledge Coco’s kindness as a person. “Ganun, ang bait, mabait naman si Coco. Saka, well dati pa naman, nandun pa ako sa kabila, hindi talaga kami naniniwala sa network war. So kami, nandito kami para lang magtrabaho. Siyempre po dahil may pamilya tayong lahat, di ba?”
John’s contract with GMA Network is per project. Does this mean he will be a Kapamilya again?
“Meron naman po. Opo. Talagang sinabi ko naman sa boss na, iyon po, e, ipinangako ko naman sa mga boss, specifically si Ninang Boss ko, si Tita Cory, na hindi ako mag-e-exclusive,” he explained.
John received positive feedback with his acting as he portrays the role of the late Mayor Antonio “Thony” Halili who was killed during the flag raising ceremony right in front the Tanauan Municipal last July 2, 2018. Is he looking forward to receive an acting nomination and/or award for the said movie?
“Ay, naku po! Ako po ay hindi gumagawa ng proyekto para lang po sa award,” he said. “Hindi po talaga ako… it’s a plus na lang po ‘yan at saka icing on the cake, kung ma-recognize man ako.”
Even if John played the role of a mayor in the movie, he has no plans of involving himself in politics.
“But I will probably say na wala po talagang plano at ayoko po talaga sa pulitika.”
For several times, the actor has been invited to serve as public servant, still he withstand not to take part in politics.
Together with John Estrada in the movie are Ara Mina as Gina Halili; Ceasar Soriano as himself; Michael Flores as Mark Halili; Phoebe Walker as Angeline Halili; JM Soriano as the anti-crime head; Martin Escudero as the teen Thony; Kate Alejandrino as teen Gina; Zandra Summer as Nancy; Yayo Aguila as Thony’s mother; Mon Confiado as Thony’s father; and Kenneth Paul Cruz as Howard Halili.
