‘Darna’ director feels sorry for Liza Soberano’s withdrawal from the film project

  • Liza Soberano backed out as Darna due to a finger injury
  • Jerrold Tarog is still positive about the ‘Darna’ movie
  • Who would be the next ‘Darna’?

Liza Soberano’s decision saddened not only her fans but also the director. Jerrold Tarog, who is known as the director of epic movies ‘Heneral Luna’ and ‘GOYO: Ang Batang Heneral,’ is the current director of Darna, after replacing the original director of the movie, Erik Matti, who left the project due to “creative differences” with producer Star Cinema.

Before Liza got the role, it was Angel Locsin who was supposed to play the role of Darna. Sadly, Angel also backed out from the character, due to a back injury which she continues to heal by having therapy sessions.

Due to Liza’s finger bone injury, that she got during the taping of the teleserye Bagani, she withdrew from the role of Darna, as she’s afraid that it will become the hindrance in doing stunts.

“I’ve been undergoing therapy. I had surgery twice na po. We’ve been trying to fix it, but lately, these past few weeks, we’ve decided na maybe it’s best if I don’t push through with it, because baka maging hindrance lang po siya for me to be able to do the stunts properly.”

“It’s a hindrance for me (not) being able to be confident in doing the scenes na alam kong may hesitations ako when doing it, because I have to take care of the finger,” she said.

On Thursday April 4 2019 a netizen tweeted about the current issue, and said, “AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA First it was Angel, then Direk Matti and now Liza. Aantayin kong si Direk @jerroldTarog ang mag-resign.”

Director Jerrold Tarog replied to the tweet saying, “Hindi naman. Busy pa din kami. They informed me about Liza’s decision weeks ago. I was quite sad about it, but her health is more important. Abangan niyo na lang kung sino ang bagong#Darna.

Star Cinema clarified that the process for selecting the new actress has already started and the preparations for the “Darna” movie continues.

“Meanwhile, the preparation for ‘Darna’ movie continues as ABS-CBN and Star Cinema remain full committed in telling the well-loved story of the Filipina superheroine and have started the selection process for the new actress who will bring the iconic character to life on the bigscreen.
