For over 36 years, Gary Valenciano also known as Gary V. or Mr. Pure Energy has made a mark as a multi-awarded performer on ABS-CBN.
In a press conference for the Evolt Concert and Dance championship on May 25, Valenciano expressed his gratitude and happiness for still being part of the network’s 65th year anniversary this 2019.
“What a journey it has been. To inspire many is a feat, but to inspire countless is a victory. Thank you for making me part of the family,” Valenciano said.
“I never actually think that I will be able to reach so many people, not only in the Philippines but everywhere in the world,” he narrated.
He also said that he was extremely grateful that the network entrusted him to perform the song “Galing ng Pilipino”, the theme song of TFC (The Filipino Channel) for Pinoy audiences around the globe.
The singer also showed his support for ABS-CBN in the aftermath of Jimmy Bondoc’s tirade against the network.
At the same press conference, he shared his thoughts about Bondoc’s “Biggest TV Network Closing Down” Facebook post.
Valenciano revealed that he and Bondoc had worked together at ABS-CBN and said he was surprised by Bondoc’s bold statements.
“Jimmy is actually somebody that I grew up with in the ABS-CBN for a show called Twisted Challenge,” he explained.
“I don’t know exactly why would Jimmy exactly come out so boldly and to say such things. But something must have happened, something must have occurred for him to become that way because that doesn’t seem like the Jimmy I once knew,” Gary said.
“So nakakabigla and I knew it was going to create a lot of waves — whether it’s people in the industry or even people outside of the industry,” he added.
Valenciano said that if given the chance to sit down with Bondoc someday, he wants to sincerely ask what drove him to say those things.
“If he has actual stories, then I would follow the advice of Angel (Locsin), who said just make a proper complaint and take it to the proper courses,” he said, referring to Jimmy’s allegations of sexual harassment in the network.
As someone who knew him personally, Valenciano was asked if he was disappointed with Bondoc to which he said that he still needs to see the two sides of the story.
“There are reasons for everything… why people say things and for me, a person who speaks that way can only be driven so far, maybe umabot na sa threshold niya and lumampas sa threshold niya kaya nilabas niya iyon. I have to be someone who sees both sides of the story before I can make a judgment on it,” he said.
He also shared that he was saddened by what Bondoc said but he still sees him as a friend.
“I am saddened by what was said but I still know that he’s a friend. I’ve worked with him and I had fun working with him,” he shared.
