GMA Network, ABS-CBN earn big in the midterm elections ad campaigns

  • GMA Network and ABS-CBN have been reported to have earned big in the first quarter of 2019 because of midterm elections ad spend
  • In terms of TV ratings, ABS-CBN is still the top choice of viewers based on the data gathered by Kantar Media for January-April 2019

The 2019 midterm election has greatly increased GMA Network’s and ABS-CBN’s reported revenues in the first quarter of 2019.

On Wednesday, May 15, GMA Network claimed that in the 1st quarter of 2019, its combined net income rose by 69% to P721.76 million, compared to the same period last year. Its combined revenues also soared by 14% to P3.8 billion.



Meanwhile, ABS-CBN reported that its net income rose by 120% from the first three months of the year (January- March) as well as its advertising revenues grew by 22%.

When it comes to TV Ratings, ABS-CBN is still the top choice of many television viewers nationwide. In the data provided by Kantar Media from the opening of the year up to the month of April, the Kapamilya Network has undeniably towered over its rival networks including GMA Network.

Kantar Media is a multinational audience measurement provider of ABS-CBN which uses a nationwide panel size of 2,610 rural and urban homes that represent 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population.

The month of January favored ABS-CBN Network gathering an average audience share of 45% that is 15 points higher than the 30% that GMA Network garnered.

The network’s reign continued up to the month of February. The numbers didn’t change which meant ABS-CBN kept a 15-point lead against GMA Network.

By March, ABS-CBN’s ratings hit an average of 47% viewership which is 17% higher than GMA Network’s ratings that remained on 30%.

The month of April still favored ABS-CBN despite the 1-point decrement from the previous month. The network led with 16 points against GMA Network by earning a total of 46% audience share while GMA Network got 30%.

Kapamilya shows led in all blocks of programming.
