Netizens are unhappy with ‘KMJS’s’ tribute to Eddie Garcia

  • Netizens slammed KJMS’s treatment of Eddie Garcia tribute.
  • DOLE’s agency started an investigation of Eddie Garcia’s accident.

Many netizens have shared their dismay with how Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho (KMJS) executed their tribute to the late screen veteran Eddie Garcia.

They blasted KMJS for not mentioning the accident that cost Eddie Garcia his life.

Several netizens questioned KMJS partiality since they are under GMA Network management.

Eddie Garcia figured in an accident during the taping of GMA network series Rosang Agimat. During one of the scenes, Garcia accidentally tripped on a cable, causing him to fall face first on the ground.  Initial reports claimed that the veteran actor suffered a heart attack but doctors from the Makati Medical Center later confirmed that it was severe neck fracture.

Eddie Garcia succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, June 20, after being in a coma for more than a week.

Aside from netizens, fellow actors Judy Ann Santos and Sharon Cuneta also shared strong sentiments over the accident that was preventable.

Her followers agreed.

Cuneta, on her part, said the neglect for the safety of the actors cost Garcia’s life. In a now edited Instagram post, the megastar said, “He should not have died yet. Had there been no neglect of safety for the actors, he would have lived to more than 100…!!!”

DOLE Investigation

Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Occupational Safety and Health Center has started its investigation into the incident.

DOLE Sec. Silvestre Bello said that the OSHC has started looking into the incident involving veteran actor Eddie Garcia.

“It is not the DOLE that will investigate but the Occupational Safety and Health Center, executive director Noel Binag. It’s ongoing. Need bigyan value workplace ng workers, napakahalaga ‘yun,” he said during an interview at the wake of the late veteran actor in Taguig.

Bello also said that GMA network could be fined or be asked given a suspension of operations depending on the gravity of the lapses.

The law on OSH sets a maximum fine of ₱100,000 per day which covers cases of death, serious injury or serious illness while in the workplace. In cases of imminent danger as a result of the employers’ violation, the government can order the suspension of operations and stoppage of work.

Meanwhile, GMA Network’s own investigation into the incident has yet to be finished.
