Okada Manila, a world-class luxury integrated resort in Entertainment City in Paranaque City, has just turned over almost half a ton of used plastic to recycling plants as part of its comprehensive effort to become a zero waste company.
Around 100 kilos of balloons and 100 kilos of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles were sent to warehouses in Bulacan and Malabon June 3, Monday. These plastic wastes will be recycled and made into upcycled materials, such as wall panels, compost, and even high-quality armchairs. The armchairs would then be donated to a selected public school for the benefit of its students.
Okada Manila is set to deliver at least 40 kilos of PET bottles monthly for recycling. Aside from plastic waste, the integrated resort will also be pursuing a more environment-friendly management of its food waste, which can be turned into bio-fuel.
To further attain zero waste status, Okada Manila’s employees will be undergoing a series of seminars on the importance of plastic waste reduction and marine conservation.
