- Kapuso male stars don’t mind being labeled metrosexuals.
- Metrosexuality is part of their job as celebrities and entertainers.
Kapuso actors Ruru Madrid, Benjamin Alves, EA Guzman, and Derrick Monasterio all accepted being labeled metrosexuals.
Merriam-Webster dictionary defines metrosexual as “a usually urban heterosexual male given to enhancing his personal appearance by fastidious grooming, beauty treatments, and fashionable clothes.”
In an interview with GMAnetwork.com the Kapuso actors admitted that they don’t mind being labeled metrosexuals because it’s part of their job as celebrities and entertainers.
According to Alves, metrosexuality should not be a big deal anymore because almost everyone is doing it even before, it’s just that it wasn’t labeled then.
“Maybe it’s the age of social media but it’s very well accepted na… Now it’s just wildly accepted that everyone is into the things that only metrosexuals are into.
“They’re labeled metrosexual but the thing is everyone has been doing that, it’s just it hasn’t had a label for a while. I don’t mind [being labeled a metrosexual],” said Benjamin Alves.
For EA he doesn’t mind what other people say because being actors, their looks and appearance are important for their job.
“Artista kami. Kumbaga mahalaga sa amin ‘yung skin, mahalaga ‘yung looks sa amin. Kumbaga ito ‘yung puhunan namin. So ako, wala akong pakialam kung ano sabihin nila sa akin or what. Basta ako, ito ‘yung puhunan namin so kailangan alagaan,” said EA.
Ruru agreed with EA saying they are being looked-up to and that they are under the scrutiny of the public thus the need to be presentable. He also admits being vain and he doesn’t mind it because it’s also for himself.
“Siyempre ‘yung mga tao nilu-look up ka, ‘di ba. Parang bawat kilos mo tinitignan nila, basta suotin mo sometimes ginagaya nila.
“Totoo naman eh, vain naman talaga ako. Ganun ako ‘tsaka para rin naman sa sarili ko ‘yun. Kaysa naman makita ako ng mga tao, ‘Ano ba ‘yan, si Ruru may ganito. Ano ba ‘yan si Ruru ‘yung suot ganyan,’ ‘di ba. ‘Yung first impression kasi ng tao ‘yun ‘yung mas mag-i-stick sa utak nila habambuhay,” Ruru explained.
Meanwhile, Derrick said labels don’t affect him. As long as he knows himself, he wouldn’t bother with any labels people put on him.
“There’s always one or two people na magko-comment ng ganun pero hindi ko na pinapansin… No naman (I don’t mind), I know naman what’s the truth. Medyo kailangan malinis ka lagi,” he said.
Derrick is currently promoting his latest film Kiko en Lala which stars Super Tekla as the lead role. Aside from Kiko En Lala, Monasterio also stars in the upcoming barkada movie G! LU together with Kiko Estrada, David Licauco, Enzo Pineda, and Teejay Marquez.
