GMA Network Primetime Queen Marian Rivera gave her approval of Jennylyn Mercado as the lead actress of Descendants of the Sun and as Dingdong Dantes’ leading lady.
Marian was reportedly one of the top actresses being eyed to take on the female lead role of the adaptation. Though she was open to the possibility, Marian felt hesitant because of her responsibilities as a mother.
Before the official announcement, Marian said she had been already informed by her husband that Jennylyn was going to play the role of Dr. Maxine dela Cruz. It was originally played by Song Hye-kyo with the character name as Kang Mo-yeon in the Korean version,
“Bagay naman si Jen dun, e. At saka ang dami nang nagawa ni Jen na mga kori-Korean,” Marian said pertaining to Jennylyn’s 2017 series My Love from the Star.
Meanwhile, Dingdong plays Lucas Manalo originally played by Song Joong-ki with the character name Yoo Si-jin.
This is the first time Jennylyn will be Dingdong’s leading lady. They previously worked together as main hosts the recent StarStruck season and in the original Encantadia series.
Other cast members of the series include Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Rocco Nacino, Chariz Solomon, Renz Fernandez, Jon Lucas, and Paul Salas. The series is set to premiere next year.
In response to the clamor of her fans, DongYanatics, Marian assured them that she and her husband will work again together in a future project.
“Huwag silang mag-alala dahil gagawa kami ni Dong ng paraan para magkasama kaming dalawa. Hindi man ngayon, siguro next year, sisiguraduhin naming magkakasama kaming dalawa.”
Marian is now set to return on TV through Sunday PinaSaya.
“Sabi ko nga sa kanila, ‘wag muna yung full-load kasi mangangapa pa lang ako. Kaya unti-unti muna,” she concluded.
