Eat Bulaga host Vic Sotto has a comedy movie Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity as part of the Metro Manila Film Festival, scheduled to premiere on December 25, 2019.
At a recent press conference for the film, Vic was asked why he has been doing MMFF films for several years now.
“Alam mo kasi yung Metro Manila Film Festival, parang kulang yung Pasko kapag wala akong pelikula ngayong Christmas eh. Kultura ko na yun. Nasa dugo ko na yun,” Vic explained.
The comedian said, “Ang importante lang we see to it na maintained, we come up with something different always.”
He admitted that making a movie is not an easy thing to do.
Vic shared, “Ang totoo niyan, itong Mission Unstapabol, it took us a long, long time para dun sa konsepto, sa istorya, casting. It was a very long process. At kung makita nila yung final na produkto eh sulit naman lahat yun.”
Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity revolves around the exploits of Don Robert Fortun (Vic Sotto) who forms a group to clear his name after he was accused to have committed a heinous crime. They also need to retrieve a valuable pearl called the Pearl of the Orient, from his brother Benjie (Jose Manalo) who is guarding it. The movie is directed by Mike Tuviera.
Last year, Vic teamed up with Coco Martin and Maine Mendoza for Jack Em Popoy: The Puliscredibles. Their 2018 film entry had estimated earnings of ₱370 million at the box office.
In 2017, Vic’s movie with Dawn Zulueta, Meant to Beh, had the fifth biggest box office gross garnered during the official run of the Metro Manila Film Festival grossing about ₱51 million.
However, his Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers failed to be included in the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival. It earned a total of ₱70 million earnings.
One of his films which premiered in the yearly film festival was the 2015 film My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore which earned a gross of ₱385 million.It starred the AlDub tandem of Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards.
