- Alden Richards became extremely popular after forming a tandem with Kathryn Bernardo in the film
- Alden revealed his plans of becoming a director
Asia’s Multimedia star Alden Richards considers his film with Star Cinema, Hello, Love, Goodbye, as a life changer.
The 2019 film is currently the highest-grossing Filipino film to date surpassing previous record holder The Hows of Us. Aside from this, the movie was critically acclaimed and earned positive reviews from respected critics.
Hello, Love, Goodbye made way for the unexpected pairing of Alden with Kapamilya actress Kathryn Bernardo which was called KathDen.
Fans are now clamoring for a sequel of the movie.
During Alden’s recent contract signing as the brand ambassador of Embassy Whisky at Concha’s Restaurant in Quezon City, he said that there is a good chance for a sequel of the film.
“Sabi naman po ng mga taga-Star Cinema, nasa proseso po ‘yon ng paggawa and posible pong magkaroon ng Part 2. Ang hindi lang po natin masabi ay kung kailan. Pero very much open po ako kasi, binago po ng pelikula ang buhay ko!” Alden revealed.
Alden and Kathryn were even recognized as the new Box Office King and Queen following the film’s success.
Alden’s fans are now excited about his next big screen project this year.
“Movies? Sa ngayon po, maraming nagpi-pitch na mga concepts. So, nasa choosing stage po kami kung ano ang pipiliin namin,” he said.
Is Alden lined up for a movie with Direk Yam Laranas?

Alden answered, “Ako po mismo nag-message sa kanya, dahil Direk Yam was my very first director sa The Road, na nagpagawa sa akin ng isang dark role. So, I miss doing those roles! Parang… Personally… Hindi ko po kasi masabi ang next movie, e, kasi, ang daming nagpi-pitch [na stories], pero sa ngayon po, e, doon kami sa ganda ng story. Kung ano yung pinakamagandang story na puwede nating maikuwuento, yun po siguro ang iko-consider naming gawin!”
If he were ever to pursue a different career, Alden said he would follow his dream of becoming a pilot. The actor then revealed his plans of working as a director.
“Piloto. Piloto talaga. It has always been a dream. But now, I’m in my field of work which is acting, medyo I’m looking also on the possibility of directing as well. Kasi, I’ve lived my 10 years in showbiz, acting in front and doing my job in front of the camera, so it’s a very interesting angle also to do things behind the camera. On how is it working with an actor, with your staff, with your team. The writer writes the story, visualizes or creates the concept, but the director gives life to the story, along with the actors. Parang nae-enjoy ko…”
“Nai-imagine ko minsan na ako yung magse-set up, I will call the shots, will motivate the actors… Kasi, I’m so in love with the craft. I’m so in love with acting. And I want to share it with a lot of people, yung mga taong really wanted to do acting as well. So, mas mabibigyan lang ako ng authority to coach someone if I’m a director and not a co-actor. Kasi, I don’t usually… I don’t give instructions to people especially pag we’re on the same level na actor to actor. But if you’re a director, that’s a different story. If you’re a director to actor conversation, you can give pointers and advice to them and instructions as the director. So, yun, directing! Pilotong direktor!”
“Well, siguro po, for now, 2020 and in the next two to three years, baka hindi po muna… Focus muna sa [acting] career. Pero eventually po, masusubukan natin.”
Is he also considering to become a scriptwriter?
“Scriptwriting? Parang ano lang po ako, e, sa story. Sa concept. Pero pagdating sa linyahan, medyo inaaral ko pa siyang mabuti. Pero with the projects that I’ve done in the past 10 years, sometimes, there are directors that give authority to the actor to revise lines. Kasi, napakaganda po kapag meron tayong katrabahong gano’n na somehow, we feel entitled to the role, to the job we’re doing. Siyempre, iba yung kapag ikaw yung actor, yung character mo eh, mas kilala mo. And masarap mabigyan ng permission to do such things when it comes to creative collaboration. So, soon, baka script rin? Sana!”
For the first time, Alden is now an endorser of a liquor brand as he signed a contract for Embassy Whisky under Tanduay Distillery company.

“I said yes to this because I wanted to explore a new opportunity with the brand, it’s a different endorsement for me. It’s a new opportunity to endorse a brand that has so much to offer in the market. So, I want to help them as much as they are helping me also. I believe in the brand, e. Since I’m also a whisky drinker, I know how whiskies are… Iba ang lasa nito, magugustuhan ito ng general public,” Alden shared.
Alden first auditioned for an acting role on the GMA Network’s afternoon soap, Alakdana. But he became popular for forming the AlDub with Maine Mendoza as his other half.
His notable works include Tween Hearts, One True Love, Carmela, The Road, Imagine You and Me, Victor Magtanggol, Hello, Love, Goodbye and The Gift. He is also known for his role as Lakan in the reboot series of Encantadia.
