M1LDL1FE returns with new track ‘Small Lanes’

Indie stalwarts, M1LDL1FE are back with their latest release “Small Lanes”.

May 22nd, 2020 – Singapore – Indie stalwarts, M1LDL1FE are back with their latest release “Small Lanes”.

With a pumping synth bassline, straight drum grooves and soaring vocals, the song evokes images of late-night drives to nowhere; nothing but open roads, street lamps pulsing overhead and the wind rushing past you.

As upbeat as the track sounds, it is reflective of the uncertain times we live in and how apprehension can keep us paralysed. “I don’t really know where to go/Moving is the only thing right”, vocalist Paddy Jonathan Ong sings in the chorus.

“Small Lanes” serves as a reminder that it is okay to not have everything figured out – all we need to do is to keep moving. Put one foot in front of the other, do not be afraid to take the small lanes, for you never know if they might lead to a highway.

“Small Lanes” is one of three singles the band plans to release this year, leading up to their debut album in 2021.

On what’s behind the song, the band says, “We wrote this song last year, before the world went upside down with all this craziness. The lyrics talk about pushing through uncertainty and how sometimes the only way through a tough time, is to ride it out. It was written as a reflection of our journey as a band and some of the personal rough patches we were going through, so to release it in a time where we’re experiencing the most uncertain of times is accidentally prescient. We hope everyone is doing okay and for those who have been hit harder than others, we hope you take one step at a time and come out the other end better than before!”

As the band’s plans to perform gigs on home ground and overseas have been derailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, M1LDL1FE has taken to social media to connect with their fans from around the region in various ways, such as guitar tutorials and sneak previews of their upcoming releases. Next month, the band will be co-hosting an AMA and hangout session together with Tell Your Children, a Singaporean creative studio. M1LDL1FE (pronounced “mild-life”) cuts across the indie-pop grain, weaving together lush electronic textures and eclectic dance grooves into the pop sensibilities of guitar-driven indie music of the early 2000s. With the release of their first two EPs ‘PAIRS’ and ‘M1LDL1FE’, the quintet snagged multiple music awards in Singapore and found themselves touring in Spain and on the line ups of notable festivals across Asia (MIDI, Zandari, LUCfest, All of the Noise) as well as opening for venerable acts like Walk the Moon, Travis, and Death Cab for Cutie.

The band consists of bassist David Siow, drummer Jeryl Yeo, guitarist Tan Peng Sing, and Paddy Ong as their frontman.
