Kapuso actress Jennylyn Mercado trended online after sharing a glimpse of a painful experience.
On Twitter, Jennylyn expressed how being “abused as a child” and being “powerless against those in authority” made her a decent person despite her tragic past.
She said that her untimely pregnancy with her son Alex Jazz was also one of her hard setbacks in life as her showbiz career was put on hold with no assurance of a comeback. And because of this, she needed to fly to America to earn some money for her family.
Despite her horrible experiences, some good resulted from it which positively made her the person that she is right now—a person who knows kindness, patience, and empathy.
“Those experiences shaped the person that I am now,” she added.

And through those experiences I learned that kindness, patience, and empathy is what makes people human.

Jennylyn is the breadwinner of her family. To continue supporting them, she even went to the extent of giving up her studies during her 4th year in high school just to keep her job as a hotel lounge singer.
Little did she know that her talent in singing would bring her success for it helped her win the title Ultimate Survivor of GMA network’s reality show StarStruck season 1.
However, during the early part of her career where she was leading in consecutive projects, she again went through a rough patch when she unexpectedly got pregnant. Also, her relationship with her son’s father Patrick Garcia initially did not work out, but eventually, the two got things patched up and became co-parents to their son.
Fortunately, she was given a second chance in her showbiz career and her career has continually flourished since then.
Jennylyn also has been very vocal in her support for the ABS-CBN network especially to the employees who face a dilemma after its application for a franchise renewal was denied by Congress.
Although she was saddened by the situation knowing how it feels like to lose everything, she sought to lend her strength to every Filipino who was affected by the franchise issue saying that the fight for justice will continue.
"Bakit ko ba ginagawa 'to? Para ba magpaganda o magpatatag? Saan ako huhugot ng lakas? Dahil sa mga pinagdaanan ko. Gusto ko rin makatulong sa kapwa ko. Na bumangon, kumalma, at maging boo ang loob ulit. Higit pa ako sa nakikita niyo." –@MercadoJen (2018)https://t.co/SZEClU5Sf7

She also fired back on those who rejoiced over the demise of the Kapamilya network stating, “Rejoicing because of other people’s sorrow is not only wrong but inhumane. You are cruel.”
