Karen Davila appeals to Congressmen that their decision on ABS-CBN’s franchise will be part of history

“I hope our congressmen realize their decision on the ABS-CBN franchise will be part of history”

Filipino journalist Karen Davila expressed her thoughts as the voting for ABS-CBN franchise approaches.

Using the hashtag #ABSCBNFranchiseRenewal, Karen said on Twitter, “I hope our congressmen realize their decision on the ABSCBN franchise will be part of history. They decide how they will be remembered. I pray they have the courage to do what is right.”

She also showed that as a journalist, she only intends to announce the news by being fair and neutral.

“It’s not a journalist’s job to make politicians happy,” she said.

She also added that politicians are not the authority on what’s ‘biased’ content. They should be able to focus on content-neutral regulation.

The House of Representatives has yet to vote on the network’s franchise

The House website stated that Franz Alvarez, House Committee on Legislative Franchises chair, and his committee is set to reassemble with the Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability on July 9 to listen to the summations of Representatives Rufus Rodriguez and Rodante Marcoleta.

Rodriguez authored House Bill 6694, to grant ABS-CBN Corporation a franchise to construct, install, operate, and maintain radio and television broadcasting stations in the Philippines.
