The coolest and funniest Pinoy adventurer is back, not on television or movies but online. Since September, ABS-CBN has started bringing back the popular 2000’s weekend show, Da Adventures of Pedro Penduko that has reintroduced many local folklore to the Filipino audience.
And his return is definitely a hit! Not only uploaded episodes are reaching hundred thousand views (the pilot has so far hit the 1.3 million mark), episode premieres are also recording a high number of live viewers, usually peaking at more than 15,000 viewers at a given time.
Offered under the weekly fantasy-drama anthology, ‘Komiks Presents’, the first two seasons of ‘Da Adventures of Pedro Penduko’ went on air from September 28, 2006 to April 28, 2007. The show is based on the story and characters created by comic book illustrator, Francisco V. Coching, famously known as the ‘King of Komiks’. It stars as the title role, then new up-and-coming actor, Matt Evans, following his exit from the Pinoy Big Brother house as a teen housemate. The show made him among the most bankable products of the said talent reality search.
During its two years airing on ABS-CBN, Da Adventures of Pedro Penduko was a consistent top rater, a massive success which gave way to a sequel which stars Evans, as well as Maja Salvador, Oyo Boy Sotto, Makisig Morales, Denise Laurel, and Aaron Villaflor, as the Engkantaos (Enchanted People) in Pedro Penduko At Ang Mga Engkantao.
And now that it’s back, the show is again reclaiming its popularity, but through an entirely different platform - YouTube. 31 episodes have been uploaded so far, and each has been garnering hundreds of thousands of views, even after just a day of being uploaded, most of which even peaking at more than 500,000. Its live viewers during episode premieres are even higher than most online series debuting on YouTube, proving that many followers have sorely missed Pedro’s adventures, and are now catching up while JeepneyTV is still uploading new episodes. And since we all know these episodes won’t be available for too long, watching them now seems to be the wiser choice given the lack of interesting new content to binge-watch these days.
Aside from Matt Evans who played the title role, Albert Martinez, Agot Isidro, Gloria Romero, Bembol Roco, TJ Trinidad, Olyn Meimban, Kitkat, Mico Palanca, Jake Cuenca, and Melissa Ricks are also part of the cast.
