Marikina City is one of the most affected cities that was hit by Typhoon Ulysses. Owing to the heavy floods, many people were in need of rescue.
Actor Jericho Rosales and his wife Kim Jones went out of their way to try to rescue people inside their village as Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon were battered by typhoon Ulysses.
In a viral photo from ABS-CBN, the couple can be seen using their surfboards in the flood to check on people in their village who were stuck inside their homes and needed to be rescued.
“This morning, paglabas namin, baha na. Usually kapag baha dito kasi, ganyan talaga. Laging ganyan ang problema. Sometimes walang boats or flotation devices so naglabas kami ni Kim ng surfboard.”
The actor said the typhoon took people by surprise by how the water rose in such a short period of time in great height.
“Kasi parang paggising ng mga tao, napuyat sila kagabi, paggising nila ganyan na. Maraming taong hindi nakaalis. Based on nangyari na before tapos caught by surprise na naman tayo na ganito, I think in that sense medyo mas malala ito.”

Jericho then called for everyone to remain calm and take this as a learning experience to be prepared for similar circumstances in the future when asked for his message for his fellow Filipinos affected by the typhoon. He also calls for the rescuers to be assisted.
“Stay calm and siguro it’s too late now to complain or anything so mas maganda, kung tayo mismo in the future we can prepare. It’s always preparation para sa akin.”
“Preparation ng mga nasa bahay and ng mga rescuers. Of course, support the rescuers. I hope they get enough funds for rescue. We get better warnings sana for the people para hindi na mangyari.”
Jericho Rosales who is an avid surfer made headlines in September 2009 during the onslaught of Tropical Storm Ondoy, after he was spotted saving Marikina flood victims, including a puppy, using his surfboard.
