Kapuso actress Aiko Melendez is probably one of the best antagonists on Philippine television now.
She became more popular in her role as Emilia in Wildflower, a TV series on ABS-CBN. She won Best Supporting Actress in the 31st PMPC Star Awards for TV for her efforts.
She earned back-to-back awards from LionhearTV’s RAWR Awards for her role in Wildflower and for playing Maria Kendra Fajardo in GMA’s Prima Donnas.
According to her, it is more challenging to play the villain because most of the time, her role as a nemesis is more complex and is harder to portray. She is also consistent in playing the evil role and viewers hate her for that.
Unfortunately, Prima Donnas will be the last series where she’ll play a villain.
According to the actress, she plans to take different roles and that being the evil character can be draining.
Aiko started her acting career during the 1980s and landed a small role in GMA’s Anna Liza starring Julie Vega, Alicia Alonzo, Augusto Victa, and Daria Ramirez.
In 1989, she had a role in the second-longest drama anthology series of GMA titled, ‘Lovingly Yours, Helen’.
In 2002, she became part of the ABS-CBN’s gag show ‘Klasmeyts‘ together with comedians Paolo Contis, Bayani Agbayani, and Herbert Bautista where she showcased her talent in the comedy scene.
In 2006, she also landed a minor role in the TV series ‘Noel’ starring Renz Valerio.
2008 was when she showed her craft in drama as she starred in ABS-CBN’s longest-running drama anthology, ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ where she portrayed a mother who continues to search for herself amid the trials and struggles of life. She also returned to MMK in 2011 where she portrayed Marivic, the sister of Dindo played by Dominic Ochoa. In the story, they were siblings who have grown to hate each other following the tragic separation of their parents. Her last appearance in the drama anthology was in 2015 where she played a loving mother who took her own life due to depression.
