First Yaya was announced as part of the line up of GMA Network’s new shows in celebration of the network’s 70th anniversary. The series originally had Marian Rivera as the lead actress but she withdrew from the project in September 2020 because she didn’t want to be in a lock-in taping.
In a previous interview, Marian said that she can’t be in a lock-in taping as she needs to take care of her two children one-year-old Sixto and four-year-old Zia.
“Kasi, mahirap sa akin naka-lock in, hindi ko makikita ang mga anak. Nagpapadede pa ako kay Sixto, inaasikaso ko pa si Zia sa online class niya,” she said.
“Tapos, hindi ako uuwi ng bahay? “Sabi ko, ‘Naku, paano ito, hindi ko kakayanin’,” she added.
Marian was then replaced by Sanya Lopez in October 2020 as the filming was resumed in November 2020 but with the strict implementation of the pandemic safety protocols.
Maxine Medina represented the Philippines at the 65th Miss Universe pageant and placed in the Top 6. She was known as the first-ever Philippine contestant to use an interpreter during the Miss Universe Q&A round.
She was a part of several films such as Beauty in a Bottle (2014), Kusina Kings (2018), and Hello, Love. Goodbye (2019). She also had several TV series projects like Hanggang Saan (2017), Los Bastardos (2018), and Beauty Queens (2020).
