President Rodrigo Duterte angered personalities and Netizens once again after he attacked community pantry organizers on Wednesday, April 28. During his public address, he criticized community pantry organizers calling them “bugok” or stupid.
The President even claimed that those who set up community pantries were just to “show that they care for the people.”
“Pag maglinya lang sila, not so much, then sabihin, ‘you’re next.’ Ganon sana. Bugok… wala lang isip yang mga ****** yan. They just want to show to the people that they care but they don’t really care because of their ignorance,” said Duterte during his speech.
The reason for Duterte’s rant was because of an incident that occurred in a community pantry in Holy Angel, Quezon City that resulted in a death of an elderly.
But such a statement coming from the President angered personalities and Netizens over twitter as the spirit of community pantries were being stained.
Moreover, the reason behind the food banks–is to sustain the inability of the Government to provide aid for the entire population.
Actor Chuckie Dreyfus called out Duterte’s supporters who lined up in the community pantries after their patron lambasted its organizers.

Writer Jerry Grácio got confused as Duterte previously urged his critics to help instead of complaining. Many responded, mostly his critics, are trying to do something to ease the Government’s burden–he called them “stupid.”
Duterte on community pantry organizers: "Walang isip 'yang mga putang inang 'yan. They just want to show to the people that they care, but they do not really care."
Pag nagreklamo ka, sasabihin tumulong na lang. Pag tumulong ka, mura aabutin mo.
Kundi ba naman gago.

A twitter personality used the usual line of the DDS to clap back at Duterte: “Tumulong ka na lang, ano? Ano ba ang ambag mo?”
Let our response to him be:
TUMULONG KA NA LANG, ANO? ANO BA ANG AMBAG MO??? https://t.co/fiHfDjqPf9

A furious Netizen called Duterte “heartless and mindless”. He then criticized his inability to lead with compassion and generosity.
AGAIN, JUST HEARTLESS & MINDLESS! You don’t have to be a leader to understand what compassion & generosity is, all rolled into Bayanihan spirit & manifested thru CPs! Why be callous when many are going hungry & desperate? And all you cud say is “Wala akong magawa!” Que horror! https://t.co/Ud5LqDIx4U

Twitter personality Jusep noted that Duterte’s supporters also built community pantries since the Government failed to support the people’s needs.
With the DDS following such an initiative in which their idol is currently attacking, he said that the President’s supporters are subconsciously contradicting the Government.

Jon Montesa, the ex-Brand Communications Manager of ABS-CBN TVplus slammed Duterte as he emphasized that the President is directly addressing his Administration.

A Netizen, to show his disgust at Duterte, even paraphrased the statement of the President to suit what the public felt with his recent statement.
“Walang isip. I just want to show to the people that I care, but I do not really care because of my ignorance.”

Patricia Non started the Community Pantry initiative after seeing people being vulnerable due to the pandemic.
Moreover, Non does not see such movement as an act of “resiliency” toward the Government–it is a response out of necessity.
Elijah San Fernando, the organizer of Matiyaga Community Pantry relayed the feelings of those who set up communal pantries in their area.
“In the absence of good governance, tanging tayong mga ordinaryong Pilipino talaga ang magtutulungan.”
