Direk Frasco Mortiz: From ‘Goin’ Bulilit’ to ‘Bubble Gang’

After working with ABS-CBN for a long time, Frasco Mortiz, a TV and film director and the man who helmed the popular Sunday Kids Gag Show Goin’ Bulilit is now a Kapuso.

He is currently working with the cast and crew of GMA Network’s Friday night gag show Bubble Gang.

On April 30, 2021, Direk Frasco tweeted Bubble Gang’s on the set photo. It is his first day of work with the Gang.

Mamaya na eere ang unang sabak ko with the Gang! Just chew it with the Bubble Gang tonight at 10:20pm on GMA! #bubblegang #gmanetwork pic.twitter.com/jcMCNYjvkB

Prior to this tweet, Frasco uploaded a sneak peek of his new project on March 23. He shared the photo of Bubble Gang’s graffiti wall and wrote, “From GB to BG.”

Before taking on the Bubble Gang show, he also directed Wowowin-Tutok to Win, a GMA-7 show hosted by Willie Revillame.

There is no way for Frasco to avoid showbiz. It was his father, Direk Edgar “Bobot” Mortiz who opened the doors of the entertainment industry for him. His career began in 2005 with the ABS-CBN network where he co-directed Goin’ Bulilit along with his father.

In 2009, he also co-directed along with Jon Red a Philippine drama show Eva Fonda. The show logged 50 episodes.

In 2010, he directed an episode of Star Cinema’s psychological horror film Cinco. He was recognized for his work.

Not long after Cinco, he made his directorial debut in 2012 as he directed a Filipino teen romantic-comedy film, The Reunion with Enchong Dee, Xian Lim, Kean Cipriano, Enrique Gil, Matt Evans, Bangs Garcia, Julia Montes, Megan Young, Jessy Mendiola, and Cristine Reyes as the stars.

In 2013, he directed horror film Pagpag, where Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla starred in. It was also his debut entry in the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival. With Pagpag, he was able to bring home the award for Best Director.

His longest-running project was Goin’ Bulilit. The show aired for fourteen (14) years. However, on August 04, 2019, the show came to an end as it aired its final episode. Saddened by the fact that the show bid farewell, Frasco expressed his feelings via twitter. The show had 745 episodes in 14 years, won a total of seventeen (17) awards, but not a single thanksgiving dinner was given to them.
