Recently, several seasoned Kapamilyas have moved to different networks following the ABS-CBN shutdown in 2020. Despite losing homegrown artists, the Network continues to grow and hone new talents.
On Saturday, June 19, the Kapamilya network launched 40 new artists under Star Magic through its Black Pen Event.
The event’s highlight was the presentation of [mostly] fresh faces as new talents. Though most of them are relatively new and would have to start from the ground up to build a career, Star Magic does have the résumé to help this new breed of Kapamilya talents prosper.
Admittedly, it is quite a loss for the Kapamilyas since most talents moving into a different network had trained under ABS-CBN’s talent management arm.
Some of these talents who already moved are Richard Yap, Beauty Gonzalez, Pokwang, Luke Conde, Clarence Delgado, Thou Reyes, Maxine Medina, Anton Roxas, Martin Javier, Frasco Mortiz, and Reign Loleng.
Aside from that, there have been rumors of former Star Magic heads Johnny Manahan and Mariole Alberto transferring to GMA Artist Center. Some also believe that Kapamilya actors Piolo Pascual and Marco Gumabao are planning to move, too.
Although it is a saddening trend amongst artists, they still need to earn a living for their families.
On the other hand, the Kapamilya Network gave a chance for new talents to emerge and make their mark in the country’s entertainment industry amid the pandemic.
And at the end of the day, it is still a business. And, as Former ABS-CBN Chairman Eugenio ‘Gabby’ Lopez III said, “Stars come and go, but the institution stays.”
