Kapamilya actress Nikki Valdez recalled her daughter’s question about sexual orientation.
On August 9, during the media conference for The Boy Foretold By The Stars follow-up series, Love Beneath the Stars, Valdez shared her daughter’s question about pansexuality.
“Olivia and I are very open to each other. Kahit alam mong hindi kami agree at some point, ang importante is open ka to us.
“I was just talking to Direk Dolly na kung pwede bang mapanood niya itong series namin. Because at the age of 13, she has recently asked me, ‘what is being a pansexual daw about?'”
Valdez admitted that she initially didn’t know how to answer her daughter’s question.
“So ako, sa totoo lang, hindi ko alam ‘yung isasagot ko, kasi hindi ko alam. I’m not very much aware of ‘yung description ng preferences ng mga tao. But I did. I researched it.”
Valdez continued, revealing her response to her daughter’s question.
“My character resonates so much because I found myself telling her na, ‘it’s okay. I would rather na you discover on your own kung ano ‘yung tingin mo ang choices mo. But, ‘yun be open.'”
She also added how her exposure to the LGBTQIA+ community influenced her perspective.
“In my 24 years, I have been exposed to the LGBTQ+ community. All my life, nakapaligid sila sa amin. They’re very /happy people. Again as Jodi said, love is universal. So who are you to choose for a person? Sobrang open kami ng anak ko. And, I just told her na, ‘when the day comes na ito ‘yung choice mo, I will support you.'”
Valdez joins the follow-up series of The Boy Foretold By The Stars, Love Beneath the Stars starring Adrian Lindayag and Keann Johnson.
Aside from Valdez, the series also adds faces in the mix with Romnick Sarmenta, Agot Isidro, Victor Silayan, and Von Picson.
The series, directed by Dolly Dulu and co-produced by Kapamilya actress Jodi Sta. Maria lands on iWanTFC on August 16, 2021.
