May Minamahal is one of a series of movies-turned-mini series under ABS-CBN’s now-defunct drama-anthology, SineSerye Presents.
ABS-CBN has produced and aired many drama anthologies, based on iconic Filipino films, before. Among those drama anthologies, is the four-part SineSerye presents, which serialized some of the most iconic romance dramas in Philippine cinema.
One of those movies, is the 1993 romantic film, May Minamahal, which was produced by Star Cinema and starred Aga Mulach and Aiko Melendez in lead roles. ABS-CBN turned the well-loved film into a TV series in 2007. May Minamahal, the TV series, is the third installment of SineSerye presents, which also brought the TV versions of Palimos ng Pag-Ibig (Kristine Hermosa, Diether Ocampo), Hiram Na Mukha (Heart Evangelista, Geoff Eigenmann), and Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos (Roxanne Guinoo, Jorss Gamboa, Jake Cuenca).
May Minamahal aired on the Kapamilya Network’s pre-primetime slot, from June 4 to July 13, 2007. The mini-series starred Anne Curtis and Oyo Boy Sotto, in their first pairing for a TV series. In the series, Curtis played the role of Monica, which was originally played by Aiko Melendez. Monica, a free-spirited and carefree girl, grew up in a household dominated by males. She caught the attention of Carlitos (Sotto), who grew up in a female-run household. Their worlds meet and start to develop deep affection for each other. Little did they know, however, that their families would be the biggest factor for them to not be together.
May Minamahal rated 15.1% on its chapter premiere, according to AGB Mega Manila. That’s still lower than GMA Network’s Great Teacher Onizuka, which posted a 15.8% rating on the same day, but it was already a huge improvement from the previous installments.
May Minamahal was succeeded by the fourth installment of SineSerye Presents, the Joross Gamboa and Roxanne Guinoo-starrer, Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos on July 16, 2007.
