Kapuso star Ken Chan revealed on March 9, that the GMA Network television series Ang Dalawang Ikaw was his last love team project with Rita Daniela, effectively ending the RitKen tandem.
During the media conference for Mano Po Legacy: Her Big Boss, Chan said the Network notified him and her former screen partner of the changes they would have on their love team.
“Bago pa namin gawin ni Rita Daniela ‘yung Ang Dalawang Ikaw, sinabihan na kami ng GMA Network na baka ‘yun na ‘yung maging huling teleserye namin sa isa’t isa. ‘Yung huling project na pagsasamahan namin. And aware naman kami doon. Bago pa namin gawin ‘yung last teleserye namin na ang dalawang ikaw, na-inform kami ni Rita.
“So prepared kami, hindi kami nabigla, hindi naman kami nagulat sa mga nangyari kasi talagang alam na namin kung ano ‘yung magiging takbo ng career namin ni Rita dahil inexplain na sa amin ni Rita dahil inexplain na sa amin.”
He clarified that they both support their respective solo careers with GMA Network.
“And we’re very happy para sa isa’t isa. Happy ako na nakakagawa siya ng mga projects kahit na wala ako. And ganon din siya sa akin, she’s very happy and she’s very proud of me, especially nung malaman niyang kami ni Bianca, ‘yung magkakasama sa Mano po, talaga happy siya for sa amin. And talagang full support si Rita para sa proyektong ito and para rin sa lahat ng cast.”
He added that it’s healthier for actors to have no limitations with the talents they can work with throughout their careers.
“Alam namin na darating at darating sa point na mangyayari talaga ‘to. And I think it’s healthier sa isang actor na makasalamuha, at makatrabaho pa ng ibang aktor na hindi lang ma-stick sa isang love team para hindi nalilimitahan ‘yung mga ginagawa naming trabaho, ‘yung ginagawa naming istorya. So makakapag-explore kami ng mas malawak sa loob ng industriya natin.”
The two Kapuso stars became GMA Network’s top love teams on their Kapuso series, My Special Tatay, in 2019. Also, they worked in the series One of the Baes apart from Ang Dalawang Ikaw.
They also starred in a Metro Manila Film Festival 2021 entry, Huling Ulan Sa Tag-Araw.
Now Chan stars in the GMA Network series Mano Po Legacy: Her Big Boss with another Kapuso actress Bianca Umali as his new love team partner.
The series also includes other GMA Network talents such as Kelvin Miranda, Pokwang, Teejay Marquez, Arlene Muhlach, Ricardo Cepeda, Marina Benipayo, Sarah Holmes, Tyrone Tan, Sarah Edwards, Hayley Dizon, Lime Aranya, Jem Manicad, and Phi Palmos.
Mano Po Legacy: Her Big Boss, directed by Easy Ferrer, premieres on March 14 via GMA Telebabad.
