On April 13, Filipino fashion designer Francis Libiran detailed how he designs for his client by getting to know them first.
During the launch of The Universe Collection at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, Libiran emphasized the importance of knowing his clients.
“I guess it’s different for everybody because before I design something for them, I would really sit down and talk to them and get to know them. That’s very important for me. I wouldn’t just design something out of nowhere. But, I want to know how they are as a person. And, I would always ask this question: ‘how do you see yourself on that stage in front of the whole universe?'”
The Universe Collection showcases six gowns Libiran’s team designed for Beatrice Luigi Gomez during the 70th Miss Universe Pageant. In April, Libiran collaborated with the current Miss Universe Philippines titleholder to launch the Universe Collection.
Libiran said he pulled inspiration from Gomez’s walk, personality, and assets in creating the Universe Collection.
“The Universe Collection was created and inspired by our candidate– Miss Bea Luigi Gomez. So, everything was inspired by her, her personality, how she walks, how she glides on the stage. So when I was meeting with her, I studied her very carefully, her assets. Her biggest assets are her legs. That’s the highlight. So I need to create a gown that would highlight those long legs.”
Libiran then thanked Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila for working with him and Gomez to exhibit the fine gown collection.
“I’m so grateful for Sofitel for mounting this exhibit. I really need to push it to, you know, make it happen before the Miss Universe. And they were very supportive about it.”
Pageant fans can visit Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila to view the Universe Collection exhibit until May 2022.
