On April 27, Kapuso artists Mikee Quintos and Dave Bornea recalled working as the newest Kapuso pairing in the teleserye, Apoy sa Langit.
During the media conference for the afternoon series, Quintos revealed she had workshopped with Bornea even before she began in showbiz.
“Si Dave naman po kasi kasabay ko siya mag-workshop. Noong bagong-bago po ako, six or seven years ago. ‘Yung batch po nila ng Starstruck, kasabay ko pong nagwork-shop.
“Noong unang open ko sa Eric Morris, sa style ng workshops dito sa GMA, kasabay ko siya doon. So ilang exercise naka-partner ko na din siya doon. So nakakatulong din po ‘yun kapag ka-eksena ko siya.”
She added that her workshop experience with Bornea helped establish chemistry between them.
“Mayroon pa rin po kahit kaunti but it helps na mayroon ng sense of comfort, because we know each other already. So ang trinatrabaho po namin is kung paano pa po namin mapapaganda ‘yung eksena.”
Bornea expressed his gratitude for the chance to work with Quintos in their latest teleserye.
“Sobrang grateful po ako na nakatrabaho si Mikee, kasi sobrang generous niya when it comes to ideas na sobrang patient niya. Kasi there are times na kapag may mga eksena, medyo may mabibigat. Like kailangan kong umabot muna doon, sabi niya, ‘Sige lang, sige lang.'”
He then cited their collaboration in portraying their characters on screen.
“May mga collaborative din kaming ginagawa and then, kung tama ba ‘to, kung okay ba ‘to. So nakikiramdaman kami, and sobrang gaan niyang kasama sa set. Ang dami kong natutunan nga. Lagi kong sinasabi sa kanya, thank you, kasi everytime na pagtapos ng isang eksena, sinasabi ko sa kanya, ‘Mikee thank you, ang dami ko nanaman natutunan sa kanya.'”
Admittedly, Bornea did feel pressure, especially with the recent success of Quintos’ pairing with other Kapuso artists.
“Hindi naman po maiiwasan na makakafeel ng pressure po but then nagtutulungan po kami para mapaganda ‘yung show so ‘yun po doon lang kami nakatingin, naka-focus lang po talaga.”
Quintos and Bornea join the cast of the upcoming Kapuso teleserye Apoy sa Langit alongside Zoren Legaspi, Maricel Laxa, Lianne Valentin, Mariz Ricketts, Carlos Siguion-Reyna, Coleen Paz, Celine Fajardo, Patricia Ismael, and Mio Maranan.
Apoy sa Langit premieres on May 2, Mondays to Saturdays, after Eat Bulaga on GMA Afternoon Prime.
