Why You Should See It:

Pandemic, albeit the challenges it demanded us to conquer, certainly gave us unexpected gifts, especially in the form of new love teams that fans will surely follow this year, and in the years to come. KDLex, one of the most promising pairs that the current season of the long-running ABS-CBN reality show, Pinoy Big Brother, bestowed the local entertainment scene, is one of those gifts. And they’re here, to conquer.

Serving as KDLEx’S first acting project as a love team, Run To Me, feels like nothing we’ve never seen before, but it feels strangely essential, nevertheless. The meet-cute moment between the lead characters, Jewel (Alexa Ilacad) and Wilson (KD Estrada), gives the audience a glimpse of the couple’s magical chemistry. Glitters sparkle when they share the same frame, which pretty much confirms how compatible they are together, as an onscreen couple.

Run To Me follows popular live streamer, Jewel. As a social media influencer, she has the attention of thousands of fans, but not of her workaholic business-minded mom, Emerald (Mickey Ferriols). One day, she comes up with a plan of fake abduction plan, in hopes of making her mother’s focus finally shift to her. It turns out, however, she picked the wrong day and place, as Wilson, witnesses the fake abduction and tries to rescue her. Annoyed, Jewel pleaded Wilson to become her fake kidnapper, instead.

One can not deny how irresistibly beautiful, the chemistry that Ilacad and Estrada conjure, when they are together. The first episode of the series allow us to see more of the pair’s individual magic. Ilacad does not have to remind us how talented she is as a dramatic actress, but she does anyway in the series, by acing Jewel’s sentimental moments when she realizes she is practically alone. Estrada surely gets us sold by his boy-next-door alone, but how he takes on Wilson’s lighthearted and free spirited personality, is a welcome bonus.

Ultimately, Run To Me, is more than the love story and the KDLex chemisry it banks on. It is also a family story that finds the compelling dynamics between a parent-and-child relationship. It allows us to examine our relationships, too, especially the ones that really matters to us most.
